2016 has been a year to remember in American politics, with business tycoon Donald Trump causing outrage after outrage in his bid to win the election and become president of the USA. During his campaign he has been criticised for his extreme anti-immigration views, his racism and more recently, shocking footage showing him making extremely sexist remarks. However, although Trump’s actions have caused surprise and disbelief amongst many, is his competition Hillary any better? The democrat candidate has spoken out denouncing several comments made by Trump, but is it a case of Trump just expressing his true feelings and Clinton trying to deceive the public? Here’s 10 reasons why the “candidate of the establishment” Hillary Clinton should be feared just as much as outspoken outsider Donald Trump.
1) The wall
Donald Trump caused an outcry when early in his campaign he called for a wall to be built on the border, preventing Mexicans from entering the United States. This statement somehow became more shocking however, as Trump ensured his dedicated fan base that in fact, Mexico would pay for this wall. This proposal, rightly so, seemed ludicrous to the wider public and Clinton herself spoke about the flaws of the planned policy — the extravagant costs, inefficiency and plain disregard for Mexican people in need of a home and job.
However, what Clinton didn’t make clear is that while she was a senator, she voted more than once in favour of a wall. There is also footage of her, speaking in a manner which is sounds scarily similar to Trump, demanding a tall fence to be built. At a recent conference in New Hampshire Clinton stated; “I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in. And I do think you have to control your borders.”
“I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in. And I do think you have to control your borders.” – Hillary Clinton
2) Mrs. Establishment Partner of Bill Clinton, senator since 2001, and Ex US secretary of state – Hillary Clinton reeks of the establishment. With 28% of funding for her campaign coming from super PAC’s and other groups, she has backing from almost the entire establishment.
In a time where people want to break away from the establishment, which has been a force of exploitation and driven inequality in the USA and all around the world, is a woman who represents this really what we want?
3) Haitian exploits
When a 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, leaving 200,000 dead and hundreds of thousands more homeless, many countries and groups came with aid. Overall the rest of the world provided some $10.5 billion in aid, with $3.9 billion of it coming from the United States. However, the Clintons seemed to be more interested in building hotels and industrial centres in the country, and soon the Haitians began to realise very little of the money was going to people in need, and Hillary Clinton as secretary of state had complete control of funds going to Haiti. So where did the money go? Mostly to large companies who had been making donations to The Clinton Foundation! These companies did not care for the people of Haiti and made minimal effort to help.
Nevertheless, the Clintons benefited and pushed their image by appearing as some sort of saviours to the Haitian people, while in reality people were dying at their expense. It seems like you can get away with anything if the media are on your side….
4) 2009 Honduras coup d’état
Manuel Zelaya, politician and president of Honduras from 2006 to 2009, introduced economic and social reforms to the poverty stricken country during his time. He introduced a minimum wage, gave away energy-saving lightbulbs, and pledged to resolve land conflicts between peasant farmers and agribusinesses. In June 2009, Zelaya called a referendum to decide whether an extra vote should take place in November – alongside the general election – to reform the constitution. If approved, the reform would have allowed presidents to stand again for re-election. However, the army refused to deliver the ballot boxes. Zelaya was kidnapped on the night of 28 June and he was forced onto military plane and taken to Costa Rica.
What followed was a huge coup by the Honduran army, installing Roberto Micheletti is President. Hillary Clinton, US secretary of state at the time, could’ve played a big role in supporting Zelaya and condemning the coup. However, she instead described Zelaya as reckless for trying to return to his country and sat by while the army controlled the media and formed a dictatorship. She condemned Zelaya, who she previously had good relations with, comparing him to Hugo Chavez and fear-mongering about his left wing ideology.
5) Boko Haram
The terrorist organisation Boko Haram are a big threat to the public in Nigeria where they are based. When the group kidnapped 276 Nigerian schoolgirls, Clinton was loud and clear with her demands, “bring back our girls.” However, was many people don’t realise is that Hillary actually refused to add Boko Haram to the U.S official terror list, despite pleas from even the CIA.
It could also be argued that the Ex Secretary of state helped to grow the organisation with her exploits in Libya which caused instability and unrest, allowing the terrorist group to thrive and steal masses of weapons from the country. Should we really trust someone in power with this level of ill-judgment and recklessness?
If there’s one thing people want in a politician nowadays, its someone that can be trusted to be honest, show integrity and have morals. Trust in politicians is a thing of the past and people desire a president or leader that they can trust is not trying to deceive the public. That is one thing Hillary Clinton will not deliver. She has a proven record of lies, deceit and cover ups which in my opinion, show that she cannot be trusted to lead a country.
She lied about the Irish peace process, her vote on the the Iraq war, her reason for illegally using a personal email server, that her family was broke when they left the White House, about being shot at in Bosnia, where her daughter was on 9/11, who she was named after, Benghazi and much more. How can people believe everything she says in her speeches now?
7)Child rape case
Hillary Clinton presents herself as a leader of women, but one woman says she was raped as a 12-year-old in Arkansas and Hillary smeared her and used dishonest tactics to get her attacker off lightly. This worked, even though many people are sure that Clinton knew that the attacker was guilty.
The victim in the 1975 sexual abuse case that became Clinton’s first criminal defence case as a 27-year-old lawyer has only spoken to the media once since her attack, a short interaction with a reporter in 2008, during Clinton’s last presidential campaign. What’s more shocking, audio tapes from nearer the time reveal Hillary seemingly admitting her client was guilty and laughing maliciously about the incident. “He took a lie detector test. I had him take a polygraph, which he passed, which forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs,” Hillary says on the tape as she laughs away. Fit for president? I don’t think so.
8) Vince Foster allegation
Vince Foster was a worker in the White House, and was found dead in 1993. His death was ruled suicide, but many theories and witnesses suggest otherwise. Foster was troubles by scandals in the White House and in a suicide note he described running peoples lives as “sport” to people in the White House.
One theory is that Vince Foster was murdered to make sure he didn’t tell the world what he knew about President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary. He was too honest, and therefore couldn’t be trusted anymore. This has been backed up by further investigations and became deeper when it came out that Foster could’ve had sexual relations with Hillary during his time as a council. Do we really want someone with these serious allegations against them running the most powerful country in the world…
“I’m in charge of the State Department’s 60,000-plus people all over the world, 275 posts,” Clinton said, in an interview with CNN. This is Hillary’s claim that she had control of security all over the world during the 2012 Benghazi attacks, which left 4 Americans dead. As secretary of state, she had much influence in this area, but despite this, a frustrating lack of action on her behalf allowed the event to take place.
This event really highlighted Clinton’s lack of knowledge and savvy when it comes to foreign policy. The astounding security failures showed how incompetent Clinton really is, and in this situation it was fatal. This was just one of many bad decisions made about foreign policy in Libya, and it was also covered up by Hillary using a personal email server to hide and delete important information. Dodgy…
10) She’s not middle class!
During this campaign, Hillary has tried to appeal to every single group possible. The working class, the middle class, Muslims, women, blacks. This has led to some pretty cringeworthy performances as she tried to relate to and empathise with the issues surrounding these groups. Particularly, she tries to appeal to less well off voters. However, is she really someone to be trusted for these people?
Wife of Bill Clinton, involved in politics and the establishment her whole life. Clinton receives around $200K for each time she appears on an important conference or speech, has a host of private transport including a jet and enough wealth, power and privilege to represent the establishment as a candidate. She does not represent the middle and working classes, she cannot relate to them and any attempt to convince voters otherwise is deceit on her behalf.
